April 16/17

Still not a whole lot going on in my flower beds, but I am still excited to see new spring growth and try to remember where everything is as all my labels faded over the winter again.  Finding a new way to label things is a big priority this year!

April 9/10, 2011

There isn't much work to do this time of year, now that the spring clean up of the flower beds is done.  The vegetable garden is too wet to do anything with.

But I am enjoying watching my flower beds start coming to life.  I haven't taken too many photos yet, but here are a few of the things starting to spring to life in my gardens.

Rhubarb popping out of the ground.

Columbine, starting show it's leaves.

Tulips, what colour will they be?

More tulips.

I thought that the moles may have eaten all of my crocus bulbs, but they were just a little slower to make an appearance than I expected!
Phlox
Waiting for the leaves to open up a little more to identify this one!

Crocuses, the first flower of the spring.

Dainty little yellow crocuses.

It will be a long time before there are flowers on my daylilies, but at least they are starting to show some growth!

April 2/3, 2011

April began with a beautiful weekend for yard work.  I couldn't resist getting started with my flower beds.

As always in the spring, they were a mess and I thought it would take days to get them cleaned.

Much to my surprise, once I got started, the progress was much quicker than I expected.  By the end of the afternoon, I had nice clean flower beds.

Now to sit back and wait for the flowers to grow!!!

And it begins again . . . March 2011

As usual, I started stalking my gardens before the snow was even gone.  Really, there was nothing to see other than the mess left behind from fall, but just the fact that I could see the dirt was exciting for me!

Slowly as the days passed, I started to see less snow and the sure signs that spring was upon us!  Little shoots were starting to pop out of the ground.

Evening Primrose, starts out with purple leaves which turn green as it grows.

Violas (aka Johnny Jump Ups)

Tulips

Daffodils

More little tulips

New shoots wasn't the only thing popping out of the ground . . . these little bulbs, alliums, I think, were escaping too!  They have been returned to their place under the soil!

Hen and Chicken waking up from winter.

Stay tuned for weekly updates on my flower beds, vegetable and herb garden and the creation of my shade garden as the spring and summer progress.
