The Vegetable Garden - June 19, 2012

Despite being full of weeds when we got home from our weekend of camping, the vegetable garden is doing well.

Lettuce and beets are coming a little more slowly than some years, but they are both in the shadier end of the garden.  The shade doesn't seem to be bothering the swiss chard and kale though!

Cucumbers and zucchini are growing like crazy, even the cucumbers that were slow to come up are catching up with the rest.

Tomatoes and peppers all seem to have had a huge growth spurt recently!

Carrots and onions are continuing to grow steadily.

And the potatoes are growing like mad!  I can not believe how big they are getting and how quickly!  I can almost taste fresh fried potatoes!

Don't look at the weeds, but you can see the little rows of soon to be salad!

Potatoes . . . if they keep growing like this they won't be plants, they will be trees!

Pictures of my Pretties - June 19, 2012

Flower beds are looking great!  Lots of pretty flowers starting to show themselves!  And as always, I love taking photos of them!  Enjoy the pretties that I am enjoying this week!

My mom is coming to visit us on the weekend and I got my love for gardening (and most of my perennials) from her.  I am hoping the flower beds look nice for her to see them.

Pink Astilbe . . . I planted some new ones this year (no pics yet) but I think (hope) that one is white and one is red or darker pink.  (fingers crossed)

Pink yarrow, took a few years for me to decide if I really liked this one or not, but I think I do.  I think I want another one in a different colour now.

Evening primrose, there are LOTS of them and so nice and bright!

Alliums are coming alone nicely!

Apparently I missed the flowers on my Coral Bells . . . oh well, there's always next year!

My poor little Dianthus needs to find a new home before it is completely smoothered out!

The first lilies of the year were waiting for me when we got home from our camping weekend on Sunday!

And then there was this one out yesterday!  Have a ever mentioned that I LOVE lilies?

Liattrice . . . white, I think.

Liattrice . . . purple I think.

Cancun Lilies . . . I can not believe how HUGE these lilies are, how much they have multiplied and how many buds are in each stalk!  Amazing that I just planted them in 2010!

Peonies.
